Who's playing
Trees For Tomorrow is a nonprofit that has been teaching natural resources since 1944, when it was founded in Merrill as a reforestation group. It made its permanent home at the Eagle River campus in 1946. The wreath session is led by the center's own environmental educators, whose stated goal is to make the work fun and easy for everyone.
What to expect
The boughs are locally sourced and cut the day before, so the greens are fresh when you start. Each person works on a wreath frame, with paddle wire and a ribbon bow, and can bring their own decorations to finish it. The class covers tree identification alongside the wreath work, so you leave knowing the greens in your hands.
Why go
The campus sits on about 40 acres of woodland, with a nearly 200-year-old hardwood, pine and hemlock forest and an interpretive trail. The property is on the National Register of Historic Places and was once a Civilian Conservation Corps training school. A wreath made from the trees that grow around Minocqua is a fitting souvenir of a Northwoods afternoon.
