About this event
Do you have a loose button or a popped seam you’re not sure how to fix? Don’t throw it away, MEND it! Bring your loved but worn (and clean!) clothes to the library for mending. It’s free! Our team of excellent volunteer menders will hem, mend and patch items for you. We will provide know-how as well as a sewing machine, needles, thread and limited notions. Some restrictions apply and mending is done on a first come basis. Help us plan for how many menders we need by signing up! Note: For 2026, there will be no Mending Day in April, July or October. Any person needing an accommodation for a disability in order to access Library activities and/or service should contact the Library in person, by phone at
715-479-8070, or by email at director@olsonlibrary.org.
What to expect
Volunteer menders work on items on a first-come basis, so the queue moves in order of arrival. The library supplies the know-how, a sewing machine, needles, thread and a limited supply of notions, so you do not need a kit of your own. Bring clothes that are clean and still worth keeping. The library sits on North Main Street in Eagle River, in a building renovated around its original stonework.
Why go
Most people have a shirt or coat they would rather fix than give up, and this is an easy place to do it. The sessions run on volunteer time, with neighbors who know how to sew sitting down to work on your repair. For anyone in Minocqua who has been putting off a mending job, it is a simple way to get it done.
