About this event
This theatrical stage version of "Anne of Green Gables" adapt L.M. Montgomery’s classic 1908 novel into heartwarming comedy-drama centered on a talkative, imaginative orphan sent by mistake to a farming brother and sister, from "Green Gables". This is a humerous family-friendly play set in the early 1900's, with a large cast of local characters from the LUHS Drama Club. "Anne of Green Gables" will take stage on Friday, Nov. 6 @ 7pm, Saturday, Nov. 7 @ 7pm and Sunday @ 2pm at Lakeland Union High School Auditorium. Admission: Donations encouraged and appreciated.
Who's playing
The cast is drawn from the Lakeland Union High School Drama Club, so the characters are played by local students rather than professionals. The club has taken on bigger shows before, including a musical that was nominated for ten Jerry Awards, a Wisconsin high school theater honor. Seeing neighbors' kids take on these roles is a big part of the appeal.
What to expect
Expect a comedy-drama that leans on humor and warmth, with Anne's chatter driving most of the scenes. The story is set in the early 1900s, and the farm siblings, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, anchor the plot. The show is pitched as family-friendly, with a full cast moving through the story on the school stage.
Why go
Anne is one of the best-loved characters in children's literature, and a student cast gives the story a fresh, hometown feel. The school auditorium was remodeled in the mid-2010s with new lighting and sound, so the production has a proper stage behind it. It is a good pick for a family night out in Minocqua.
