Going Once, Going Wild
Monday, November 2 at Northwoods Wildlife Center, Minocqua
About this event
Going Once, Going Wild is the online auction run by Northwoods Wildlife Center, a wildlife rescue on Highway 70 just west of downtown Minocqua. Bidders can pick from vacation getaways, Milwaukee Brewers packages and local finds donated by businesses and supporters. Every bid helps pay for the care of sick, injured and orphaned wild animals.
What to expect
Bidding happens online, so the auction is a way to take part from home. Part of it is built around the center itself, with behind-the-scenes looks, interviews with the rehabbers, and glimpses of resident animals such as Hanna the bald eagle and Tommy the red-tailed hawk. Sneak peeks of the packages are posted ahead of bidding.
Why go
The center takes in 600 to 700 animals a year and gets no government funding, so donations carry much of the work. Auction money covers food, supplies, facility upkeep and pay for the rehabbers who do the rescues. The auction is also a good way to see what the center does before you ever visit its grounds.
