About this event
Supernatural Lake Superior is a talk by researcher and author Chad Lewis, presented by the Rhinelander District Library. It covers the strange side of Lake Superior, from ghost ships and sea serpents to cursed places and wandering spirits. The library's meeting room is a simple indoor setting for a talk of this kind, a short drive from Minocqua.
Who's playing
Chad Lewis is a researcher, author and lecturer from Eau Claire who has spent nearly 30 years traveling in search of unusual stories and history. He holds a master's in psychology. His book Supernatural Lake Superior shares its name with the talk, and in a recent radio interview he described a Two Harbors man who saw what looked like fins that turned out to be the humps of a lake monster before it vanished.
What to expect
This is a storytelling talk in the library meeting room, not a lecture on lake history. The stories range across ghost ships, mermaids, UFO sightings, sea serpents, cursed locations and wandering ghosts from around the lake. Lewis mixes folklore with a bit of science and encourages listeners to go see these places for themselves.
Why go
Lake Superior folklore is a rich corner of Wisconsin storytelling, and Lewis has spent decades collecting it. The talk is a good pick for anyone who likes the creepier side of the lake beyond the usual haunted lighthouse. It is also a different kind of evening than most library programs.
