Sunday ArtCoustics Open Mic, Open Jam, Open Canvas at Earth Goods

Music starts as an open mic, where people sign up for a short turn of up to three songs. Everything is unplugged, with no amps, microphones or electronics. Island City Acoustics, a music shop a block away, co-hosts the session and keeps an acoustic guitar at Earth Goods for beginners. The sign-up list eventually gives way to an open jam with whoever is around.

The open canvas is what sets this apart from an ordinary open mic. Acrylics and upcycled canvas are set out for a shared painting, and watercolor paper and brushes are there for anyone who wants to try. A drink from the bar makes it easy to sit back and listen, or to paint while the music plays. Artcoustics suits a night when you want to make something, not only watch.
