Rhinelander Area Special Olympics Bowling

Wednesday, November 4 at Nicks Hodag Lanes, Minocqua

Nicks Hodag Lanes · Rhinelander

About this event

Bowling is starting and we are welcoming new athletes and volunteers!!! There is an application/certification process, so please apply ASAP if interested. (This can be done online through the State of Wisconsin Special Olympics site, or we have a manual application for athletes) We bowl every Wednesday from 3:20 p.m. till about 4:20 p.m.

Who's playing

The Rhinelander Area Special Olympics program runs the bowling team for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Local news coverage of a line-dancing fundraiser featured team members and their families, and the team's regional coordinator teaches special education at Rhinelander High School. The money raised went toward new shoes, bags and custom bowling balls.

What to expect

Sessions are practices on the lanes, with volunteers working alongside the athletes. The coordinator says the athletes look forward to practice and come ready to bowl. Nick's Hodag Lanes has a bar with a kitchen, a 50-person banquet room, dart boards, cornhole and two golf simulators.

Why go

This is a chance to be part of a team with strong local backing, and volunteers are a big part of how it runs. Jeff and Nick Plouff, lifelong Rhinelander bowlers, bought the center in 2020 with the aim of restoring bowling to the community. For anyone who wants to help a local team, it is a good place to start.
