About this event
The Lakeland Area Genealogy Society is a monthly gathering for anyone working on family history, held at the Minocqua Public Library. The group is made up of local genealogists with varying levels of experience, from people just starting out to longtime researchers. Visitors are always welcome, which makes it an easy first look at the society.
What to expect
The meeting combines a brief business session, an educational program and time to help members with their own research. Past programs have covered topics such as using DNA test results in family history. Members can bring questions about their own family lines, and the room is set up for talks and small-group work.
Why go
The society has published local indexes, including a cemetery tombstone inventory and birth, marriage and death indexes drawn from the Minocqua Times and Lakeland Times newspapers. It has been working through later decades of the Lakeland Times. For anyone with family roots in the Northwoods, these local records are the kind of resource a general search will not turn up.
