Wednesday, November 4 at Warehouse Community Arts Center, Minocqua
Warehouse Community Arts Center · Eagle River
About this event
Children will have a wonderful time exploring visual arts - specifically focusing on sculpture making. Ages 7-14, 8 week session every Wednesday. See link above for more information.
Who's playing
The course is taught by Sarah S. Thompson, an artist, teacher and graphic designer. She has taught children at ArtStart and The Discovery Center, substituted at AV-W School in Woodruff, and worked at Dillman's Art Workshop Retreat. Her own art runs through painting, collage and assemblage, which means turning old materials into new creations.
What to expect
Lessons cover the history of masks, prop and set design, abstract 3D sculpture and 3D landscapes. Storytelling and costume work run alongside, so the making ties into a character. The format is hands-on from start to finish: students try several techniques first, then move into larger pieces.
Why go
The course builds from small experiments to one large mask, so each young artist finishes something substantial. Working with cardboard, paper and recycled materials keeps the ideas easy to carry home. The Warehouse adds to the draw, a downtown Eagle River arts center with a ceramics studio, a gallery of local artists and a theater space.
