CULTURE TALKS | How To Get Involved In Local Politics
Tuesday, November 10 at The Hilgermann Center, Minocqua
The Hilgermann Center · Rhinelander
About this event
Culture Talks are presentations by community members that are free and open to the public. For this talk, Myles Alexander will explore what it means to get involved in politics as a citizen. More information at www.thehilgermann.com/culturetalks
Who's playing
Myles Alexander is a retired employee of UW Extension, and he speaks from that background about how citizens take part in local public life. The Culture Talks series is built on presentations by community members, and Alexander is one of them. He is the third speaker in the fall run, after talks on how local government works and on the history of voting.
What to expect
Each session in the series is followed by a Q&A, so there is room for questions after the presentation. The talk takes place in the community space at The Hilgermann, a historic building in downtown Rhinelander. The focus is on what involvement looks like for an everyday resident, not on how to run for office.
Why go
The Hilgermann is worth knowing in its own right. Otto Hilgermann built the building in 1915, and it now houses three local businesses alongside the community room. For anyone in the Minocqua area who wants a grounded, non-partisan starting point on local politics, this is a free evening in Rhinelander well spent.
