American Mahjong – Dragon Ladies

The Dragon Ladies are a regular group of mahjong players who meet at the library on a recurring schedule. They play American style, a different version from the Chinese game many people know. The group is willing to teach, so a first-timer will not be left to work out the tiles alone.

A table game where most of the conversation is about tiles and hands. The group does not meet every time, so a session is occasionally skipped. The setting is a public library rather than a bar or clubhouse, so the feel is calm and social.

For someone who wants to learn mahjong without signing up for a class, a recurring group is an easy way in. Koller's backyard has picnic tables and benches for warm weather, so a visit can stretch into a longer afternoon.
