American Mahjong – Dragon Ladies

The Dragon Ladies are a mahjong group that meets at Koller Library. The listing does not name a leader or teacher. It does say the players are willing to teach anyone new to American style mahjong, so experience is not expected.

Players sit at a table with the tiles and learn the American style as they go, with help from the group. The library is a public building, so the mood is low-key and social. Not every session goes ahead, since the group sometimes skips a meeting.

The library describes its mission as welcoming all, and this group puts that into practice at the table. It is a relaxed way to pick up a new game, meet people from around Manitowish Waters, and spend an afternoon with others who like to play. For a newcomer, the group's willingness to teach is the main draw.
