Mahjong at the Library
Tuesday, November 17 at Plum Lake Public Library, Minocqua
About this event
Mahjong at the Library is a learn-and-play session at Plum Lake Public Library in Sayner, in the Minocqua area. The game is an ancient Chinese pastime built on skill, strategy and luck. The session welcomes complete beginners as well as players who want to sharpen their game.
What to expect
The session is hands-on, built around the tiles and the table rather than a lecture. Beginners and experienced players are both invited, so people at the same table may be at very different stages. Plum Lake Public Library has been part of the community since 1939, when the Plum Lake Woman's Club started its first lending library.
Why go
Mahjong mixes planning with luck, which keeps a first game interesting and a later one different. For someone in the Minocqua area who has been curious about the game, a library session is a low-key way to find out whether it suits them. The library also serves the Sayner, Star Lake and St. Germain communities, so it is a good place to meet neighbors.
